A message from the President
I'm very please to announce that our February evening meeting was a great success, as a large audience attended a very informative talk from one of our own committee members, VP Membership Assia Belhaouas of Petro-Canada.
The LPS membership stands at 97 (bravo once again Assia) but Are you a LPS member? If not, contact Assia as soon as possible with your renewal or joining fees. (Membership form attached).
Much of my time this year so far, along with that of VP Seminars Robert Webber, has been spent organising our first 2008 One-Day Seminar, to be held at Burlington House on 27th March.
The seminar is entitled "Tools and Techniques for Successful Reservoir Monitoring and Management" and its scope will revolve around the downhole and subsurface data measurement requirements of long term field management. This is a wide ranging topic encompassing, at the field scale, 4D or Life of Field Seismic, (LoFS), and, at the well scale, "smart well" and "intelligent completion" technologies such as downhole pressure measurements, fibre optics distributed temperature measurements and flow metering and control devices. There will also be presentations on cased hole logging technologies and finally some talks on of the visions of the future such as the automated Digital Oilfield Solutions that are starting to be applied by a number of operators and service companies.
A poster for the seminar and a detailed agenda is included in the Newsletter and I would ask you to take a good look at it. I hope you will conclude that the high quality agenda and reasonable price for the day combines to give excellent value. Please also disseminate information on the day to others in your respective organisations. The talks should be of interest to all geoscience and engineering professionals, not just petrophysicists. That way we should be able to maximise both the attendance and the value of the day for the audience.
Registration forms are available here. One further reminder is that as we will be holding a seminar in March we have decided not to hold an evening talk in March. The committee have felt for a while that holding two events close together is counter productive as it forces some members into an either/or decision and dilutes both attendance and the effort that the committee can make in making events successful. This is an experiment, if the membership have any comments to make we'll be glad to take them on board.
Regards
Jonathan Lean LPS President
From VP Treasurer, Mike Millar:
A big thank you to BG-Group, Baker-Hughes, Hess, Schlumberger and Shell for sponsoring our 2008 University Open-day.
And many thanks to the following wonderful companies who have agreed to sponsor the LPS website for 2008; Baker-Hughes, BP, Centrica, Halliburton, Hess, ResLab UK, RWE-DEA, Schlumberger, Senergy, Tullow and Weatherford.
The LPS exists to promote, for the public benefit, education and knowledge in the scientific and technical aspects of formation evaluation. We do this through meetings and seminars, University student support grants, Petrophysics Open Days and other educational support.
We rely on our sponsors to provide the funding for these activities and it is their logos which you see on our website. For £750 per year you can have your logo on www.lps.org.uk with a link to a URL of your choice and you also can place an advertisement in the Market Place section of the website free of charge. The LPS is a registered charity (1020083). Please contact the Treasurer (mike.millar@petro-canada.com) if you are interested in supporting our work.
All the Best
Mike Millar - VP Treasurer
